Three Sisters - May
A few new drivers entered for the may event, most notably James Gubby, Roger Snook and Bernie Smith.
Gubby was the quickest of the three all weekend, and he ended up with the lap record by the end of the weekend.
Heat 1
Another weekend at 3 sisters and the 1st heat would start with Ian Walmsley on pole, John Halliwell 2nd and Andy 3rd.
However Halliwell and Walmsley BOTH failed to make the start and as a result Andy started from what was now pole position.
Andy led from lights to flag and took the victory by just over 1.5 seconds from James Gubby. Gubby was a tenth quicker than Andy on one lap
setting a 43.15 to take the lap record. Andy was struggling with bottom end power and was 1/2 a second slower than he was earlier in the weekend,
However, he was still under his original lap record in the race, with a 43.21
Third was Eddie Donald and 4th went to Mark Rainford.
Heat 2
This heat would prove to be the downfall of many drivers, as a stupidly slow rolling lap by Luke Johnson on pole position bunched the whole pack up into turn 1,
and on the following flat-out left, a massive pile up ensued, with Andy Woodvine being bounced around like a pinball, John Halliwell spinning 180 degrees in the
air, and numerous others onto then grass. Andy, starting in 15th, had nowhere to go and was caught in the middle of it, smashing into Bernie Smith and ripping
the left corner of the chassis off. Paul Phelan easily caught Luke Johnson to take the win while Mark Rainford was third.
Heat 3
Andy had to use the spare Venom Attack chassis from last year for this heat. Starting 20th, he made his way up to 12th but the engine was drastically losing power.
Andy fought with Bernie Smith and eventually got the upper hand but was very disappointed with the performance of the engine.
Final
Andy would start 13th for the final. The first corner was clean but into paddock bend, Mark Rainford was flipped onto the grass, landing on his feet!
By lap 5 Andy had reached 6th place, and there he would stay, until Ian Walmsley simply drove past him down Conrod Straight. Andy's engine was getting worse and was cutting out as well, due to poor carb performance as well as engine. Later inspections showed that the barrel clearances were too high, causing a lack of compression and power, which just got worse over the weekend.
Paul Phelan drove a solid race, albeit at a slower pace, taking the win from James Gubby and Luke Johnson, who, despite getting the fastest lap by some way, lacked the race craft to get by the two in front of him.
