MBKC Gold Cup - 7th

Rain and an unlucky setup choice denied Andy a possible podium finish at the MBKC Gold Cup held at 3 Sisters International Race Circuit on the 25th June 2006.

After showing some excellent pace and shaving half a second off his previous best time on the Valley circuit, Andy was confident of a very good finishing position. While Andy has been at Uni, a new series has started at the 3 sisters circuit in association with Motors TV, racing on a saturday, and this has brought some high profile drivers from the TKM Extreme class into the club. Matt Bell, and Martyn Lyell, 1st and 2nd in the Junior Intermediate TKM Super 1 in 2005, as well as the ever consistent and quick James Duxbury, holder of Andy's previous title and the number 15 plate, added to the likes of Alex Jones, Phil Smith and Paul Monks, makes for some very exciting racing.

Andy had a good first heat in the dry and a pretty disasterous 2nd heat, having never driven the Tec-Mec chassis in the wet before. Andy lined up 9th on the grid for the final, hardly where a podium contender would like to start. As luck would have it, the heavens opened up for a short but sharp shower, while the TKM class was sat on the grid and this prompted everyone to try and work out whether to go onto wets or try slicks as the track would dry quickly. As it turned out, wets were chosen by everybody, but the key factor was whether to set the kart up for full wet or for drying conditions. Andy chose a more wet setup, and in the race, struggled to keep pace with the leading pack, eventually coming home in 7th position. Martyn Lyell taking the win by 0.001 seconds from Duxbury!

Andy's next race will be the TKM Festival in August.
