MBKC Round 8 - 2nd place

Andy came home 2nd in the final of the 8th round of the 3 Sisters championship on the 24th July.

Shortly after his 18th birthday the previous Thursday, Andy was looking for a good result to celebrate, but that didnt start off to well in heat 1, with Andy suffering a flat tyre, flying over the hill and rejoining the track, struggling with erratic handling to the finish in almost last place.

Heat 2 proved more promising, Andy moved from the back of the grid to finish in 6th position,
as closest rivals Duxbury and Halliwell both retired from the heat
.

Andy comfortably won the 3rd heat from Duxbury, and took 8th on the grid for the final. Duxbury, with his DNF in heat 2, lined up 12th and Halliwell 14th. Alex Jones had a trouble free set of heats and lined up on pole position for the 12 lap race.

Duxbury made an incredible, if very lucky, start and managed to leapfrog Andy into turn 3, and shortly after took the lead while Andy battled with a very oversteery kart in the opening stages of the race. Andy had trouble making moves stick and as a result lost ground on the Duxbury/MacAuley leading group as he made his way through the field.
However, as Andy got into 3rd place he immediately set to work on the 3 second lead the front pair had built over the rest of the pack, and was helped by the arrival of a very light rain shower. On one lap Andy completely closed the gap and was quickly past MacAuley, as the Gillard driver began to slip backwards.
With 2 laps to go Andy was very close to Duxbury, but made a small mistake in the greasy conditions and lost that fraction of a second to the leader on the last lap. Duxbury held on to take the win by only 0.2 seconds from Andy, with MacAuley another 0.7 behind Andy. John Halliwell managed to get to 4th by the end of the race, with poleman Jones taking 5th and Paul Phelan 6th.

This result moved Andy 1 point closer to Duxbury in the overall standings with 4 rounds to go.
